Copper

Copper is one of the most valuable household metals to recycle.

Old electrical wires and extension cords (remove insulation if possible)

Plumbing pipes and fittings

Copper pots, pans, and cookware (non-magnetic)

Air conditioner coils and components

Refrigerator compressors

Old water heaters

Electric motors and transformers

Electronics with copper heat sinks or coils


Brass

Often found in plumbing and decorative items, heavy and valuable.

Door knobs, handles, and hinges

Faucets and plumbing fixtures

Decorative lamps and light fixtures

Keys

Old bed frames (check if brass-plated or solid)


Aluminum

Lightweight and very common.

Soda cans and aluminum beer cans

Aluminum foil and baking trays (clean first)

Window and door frames

Screen doors and patio furniture

Bicycle frames (non-steel types)

Aluminum car parts (rims, radiators)

Old ladders or gutters


Steel / Iron

Less valuable per pound but heavier than other metals.

Cast iron pans

Old tools and hardware

Filing cabinets, shelving, bed frames

Appliances (washing machines, dryers, stoves, dishwashers)

Water heaters

Lawn mowers and grills (remove plastics)

Car parts and brake rotors

Automobiles


Stainless Steel

Mid-value metal, magnetic test helps identify it (slightly magnetic or not at all).

Sinks and faucets

Kitchenware (pots, utensils, thermoses)

Refrigerator interiors

Old barbecue grills

Exhaust systems from cars


Electronics (for e-scrap value)

Contains copper, aluminum, and sometimes gold or silver in circuit boards.

Desktop computers and laptops

Power supplies

Old TVs and monitors (remove CRTs if possible)

Printers and scanners

Cell phones and tablets

Video game consoles


Appliances with Mixed Metals

These contain valuable parts once disassembled.

Microwaves (steel case, copper transformer)

Refrigerators (copper, aluminum, steel)

Air conditioners (aluminum/copper coils)
